This artwork was inspired by a loved one’s battle with cancer. I am not religious, I didn’t know what I could possibly do, when they asked me to pray for them. I decided to donate my hair to a cancer charity which makes free wigs for for children battling with the illness. The artwork is a reflection on my battle with vanity. Giving away the one thing I believed made me feminine, helped me re-evaluate beauty. An act of kindness is more beautiful than the shiniest of hair.
“Going to the bathroom at night,
I covered my breasts with hair,
Until cancer stripped dear one’s head,
Four donations per wig,
Now I walk bare.”
